Sends Markham a copy of the last hearing given to the Federal Suffrage Association. There will be a Congress in San Francisco in July and asks Markham for his assistance. Later this years there will be the Sewall's International Peace Conference, Noational Council of Women Voters and International Purity Congress.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
